Robina Book keeping: How Long to Complete BAS?For many Robina businesses, book keeping can be very time consuming. Have you ever thought how long it takes to complete your BAS lodgements each quarter?

According to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), small business owners spend an average of two hours each quarter completing their Business Activity Statements.

One wonders if that includes all the time getting their bookwork in order!

It’s a constant dilemma for the ATO and small business owners alike- they really have little idea what’s involved for bookkeepers to prepare BAS forms. At what stage is someone doing bookwork, and at what stage does that stop and BAS preparation work start? Since most small business woners never really worried about the bookwork until GST came in, it figures that all the bookwork is necessary each quarter just to fill out a BAS form.

So the ATO really need to examine this strange statistic that they have come up with saying that it only takes two hours each quarter for most business owners to complete their BAS

Using MYOB For Bookkeeping in Your Robina BusinessUsing MYOB for bookkeeping has simplified the accounting process for many Robina businesses. Like many software packages, MYOB isn’t straight forward to use to get maximum benefit.

Is MYOB hard to learn?
MYOB has worked hard to simplify the operating of their software, so in basic terms MYOB is not hard to learn. Many of our bookkeeping clients struggle not so much with the MYOB software, but more with the actual principles involved with the bookkeeping process.

“Does MYOB have any easy way to work our the BAS?”

Garbage in – garbage out.
If you incorrectly enter the data into your MYOB software bookkeeping package, then the information or reports that MYOB spits out will not be a true reflection of your business activities.

Using MYOB for BAS
If all the inputted date is correct in your MYOB files, then generating a Business Activity Statement is fairly straight forward. We often find clients having difficult completing their BAS because they haven’t run the necessary reports to check that their bookkeeping data has been correctly entered into the MYOB file

“What steps do you take with MYOB to check your BAS figures?”

Does MYOB have any easy way to work our the BAS?
All accounting software packages are dependant on the skills and accuracy of the person inputting the bookkeeping figures.

What steps do you take with MYOB to check your BAS figures?
Just as using spellcheck for a word document does not necessarily mean that your document will be grammatically correct – spellcheck can only “guess” which word you are wanting to use. For example through and though are both spelt correctly, but which word you use can affect the meaning of a sentance.

With MYOB, the figures may appear correct to the untrained eye, but a professional MYOB bookkeper knows what reports to run and has a checklist that they work through before lodging the BAS

We prepare hundreds of BAS forms for clients each year, whereas most business owners would only spend a few hours each quarter working on their BAS statements.
