<img align="right"src="http://www.robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/hourglass.jpg" alt="Robina Bookkeeping: Building Cash Reserves" />Our Robina bookkeeping service has always encouraged our clients to aim towards building a financial cushion with cash reserves.

In the present economic climate this concept does seem almost absurd. It’s easy for the experts to tell you that your business should have anywhere from six to nine months worth of income safely stored away in the bank.

That means that a business grossing $25,000 per month, the mere thought of saving over $150,000 in a savings account will either have you collapsing from fits of laughter or from the paralyzing panic that has just set in.

For many Robina businesses that are struggling to meet the payroll each month, this nice little theory seems absurd. So how is a small business owner to even begin a prudent savings program for long-term success?

How To Start A Savings Program
The first step that your business can take is by reading this article. If you’re not aware of a problem in your financial budget, then it doesn’t matter how good your bookkeeping or planning is, you’ll not be looking to fix it.

The principle of saving is the same for your household budget too. Building savings allows you to plan for future growth in your business and have ready the investment capital necessary to launch those plans. Having a source of back-up income can often carry a business through a rough time.

As we’ve seen for many struggling businesses in and around Robina and Varsity Lakes , when market fluctuations, such as the dramatic increase in fuel, power and water prices, start to affect your business, you may need to dip into your savings to keep operations running smoothly until the difficulties pass.

There’s many Gold Coast businesses that rely on tourism, an industry that suffers from seasonal fluctuations. They are used to building cash reserves in the high hseasons to support their business during the quiter periods off-season.

Rather than be alarmed by the prospect of looking to make those sort of savings, reflect on the fact that you didn’t build your business overnight. So you cannot expect to build a savings account instantly either.

Ask your Robina bookkeeping service to review your books monthly, that way you can have a look for possible areas that you can trim expenses and reroute the savings to a separate account.

Such bookkeeping practises will also help to keep you on track with cash flow and other financial issues.

While it can be quite alarming to see your cash flowing outward with seemingly no end in sight, it’s better to see it happening and put corrective measures into place, rather than discovering your losses five or six months too late.

Our Robina Bookkeepers and bookkeeping service often come across a common pitfall that small business owners make in respect of GST credits. Their supplier issues an invoice that includes GST without being registered for GST

<img align="right"src="http://www.robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/gst-invoice.jpg" alt="A supplier issues an invoice including GST when not GST" />In other words, your supplier has just increased the invoice by 10% – so do you go back and question the invoice amount and request that they issue the invoice without the GST component?

Whether you choose that course of action or not, your supplier must be registered for GST before you can claim a GST credit on a purchase. Ask the supplier whether they are registered for the GST or ring the Australian Tax Office for more details.

For small business owners in and around Robina, Varsity Lakes, Reedy Creek and Mudgeeraba , contact our Robina Bookkeepers and bookkeeping service for help with your bookkeeping.

It can be confusing for people who are just starting their small business in and around Robina, Varsity Lakes, Reedy Creek and Mudgeeraba.

Maybe you’ve been trading for some time, and now you find that you’re within reach of the $75,000 threshold, this means that now you’ll need to become GST registered

To claim a GST credit for purchases you must be registered for the GST and have a valid tax invoice for items over $75 (excluding GST). If you use an incorrect or incomplete tax invoice to claim a GST credit, the GST credit may not be allowed.

For purchases that cost $82.50 or less (including GST), you must keep documents such as cash register dockets, receipts or invoices to support your claims. You must also keep your tax invoices and other GST records for five years.

We were looking to write a letter to complain about the Water Rates invoice that we recently received

There’s much talk on the Gold Coast about rising water rates – there’s been a flood of complaints surging through the coast like a tidal wave

What’s the problem? Why shouldn’t a brand new company suddenly increase the rates on a commodity to raise funds to build a spanking new corporate HQ in Robina?

Maybe we should try that with all our clients, and see if we’re still in business in a few months time!

It’s absolutely disgusting what Allconnex are doing – and the Gold Coast City Council are rubbing their hands together with glee – because they’re going to have another “Windfall” that they’ll have to spend (WASTE)

How easy is it to spend money when it’s not yours, and you’ve never had to sweat to earn it?

One wonders if the same people that makes these outrageous decisions even have a family budget or do they just keep spending money like it’s going out of fashion.

Here’s a letter that you can send to Allconnex, and let them know how you feel

At the beginning of a new year many small business owners in and around Robina look at setting some goals, and reviewing the state of their business as another year has gone by.

With good record keeping and upto date bookkeeping it’s so much easier to accurately assess the financial progress of your Robina business

Here’s three simple resolutions that you can make and KEEP for your business in 2011:

<img align="left"src="http://robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/bookkeeping-tip-number-one.jpg" alt="Get Organised And Keep Organised with Robina Bookeeping title="Get Organised And Keep Organised with Robina Bookeeping" />Get Organised And Keep Organised
A good place to start is by tidying up your desk
Having a clear desk creates a more relaxed environment,so you can begin to have clearer thoughts and ideas.

Many Robina business owners have a cluttered desk because you don’t have a filing system in place – we can help you with that

<img align="left"src="http://robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/bookkeeping-tip-number-two.jpg" alt="Good Record Keeping with Robina Bookeeping title="Good Record Keeping with Robina Bookeeping" />Good Record Keeping
Keeping your paperwork upto date with regular bookkeeping has many advantages in running a healthy business.

There’s also legal obligations in Australia to keep your business records upto date and in order – they need to then be archived for five years.

You’ll find there’s penalties for not maintaining the required records and for not keeping them for five years. Good record keeping will help you avoid these penalties.

<img align="left"src="http://robinabookkeeping.com.au/robina-bookeeping/bookkeeping-tip-number-three.jpg" alt="Cash Flow with Robina Bookeeping title="Cash Flow with Robina Bookeeping" />Cash Flow Is the Life Blood!!
Tracking all monies coming in to your business and monies flowing out of your business is the primary reason for having an efficient bookkeeping system.

Cash flow in your business is like blood in your body – Just as a blockage in your arteries can cause a heart attack, so too will your business can die if the cashflow dries up.

Start TODAY with a simple four-step Cash Flow Budget. For help contact our Robina Bookkeeping service TODAY

The Melbourne Cup is almost always a boost for Robina book-makers, but has little effect on Robina Book-keepers.

Robina Town Centre was like a ghost town this morning – it seems no one was venturing out as the Melbourne Cup either slows down, or closes some Robina businesses

“It should be a national public holiday” said one employee, who was in a two-dollar shop buying some party items for the office luncheon

That’s right, today is the first Tuesday of November, and at 3.00 pm AEST, it seems that Australians everywhere stop for one of the world’s most famous horse races – the Melbourne Cup.

Even in the bank, the TV was tuned to the sports channell, four hours early (just in case the staff missed the beginning of the race)

Melbourne Cup day, even in Robina, at the haert of Australia’s Gold Coast, people ruch down to the local TAB and have a flutter

It seems that most years the only real winners from this horse race are the Government, rubbing their hands together with glee from all the extra tax they’ll receive today – and the Bookmakers – as there’s always short odds

Who are the real losers? Small business owners that feel pressured to “jpoin in the spirit of the race” and hold an office party

Anyone got a calculator handy? How many man hours are lost over this horse race that lasts about three and a half minutes?

During the Second World War, 1942–44 – The Melbourne Cup was run on Saturdays – the government was obviously more sensible in those days and understood about productivity and the importance of small businesses

Have you ever wondered why you should outsource your bookwork to our Robina bookkeeping service?

Do you think your business can’t afford to engage freelance professional bookkeepers?

You’re probably thinking that your business can’t afford to engage freelance professional bookkeepers like our Robina bookkeeping service. That’s the sort of thinking we had the other day when we had some problems with our water supply

“Oh, a plumber will charge too much, we can do it ourselves”. So about three hours later, we were no where closer to fixing the problem – it was a situation we’d not encountered before. So now we are three hours behind schedule and nowhere closer to fixing the problem

So we call out one of our clients who’s a plumber – and the problem is fixed in about three minutes.

Why could the plumber fix the problem so quickly?

Because he does this sort of work every day.

He’s got the correct tools to do the job

He’s come across this problem many times before

He’s got years of experience

Why the plumber uses our Robina Bookkeeping Service:

Because we do bookkeeping everyday for different Robina small busineses

We’ve got the correct tools to do your bookwork

We’ve come across all sorts of bookkeeping issues and problems in the past

We’ve got many years of experience and can see efficient and speedy ways to get ontop of your bookwork

We were struggling with the plumbing because we thought we could save a few bucks. We lost time that we can never buy back, we got stressed out over a simple job, and in the end it cost us more than if we’d left it to a professional in the first instance

Smart Robina business operators understand that whilst they may try to do the bookkeeping themselves, they’ve not got as much experience as we do, and they don’t have time to “give it a go” get it wrong, and still have to pay for a professional bookkeeper to come in and pick up the mess.

We save our Robina bookkeeping clients TIME and MONEY so that they can focus on the parts of their business that they do best.
